Guinea is a nation in West Africa. Its territory encompasses the water source for the Niger, Senegal, and Gambia rivers, with a coastline facing the Atlantic Ocean. The name Guinea originates from Berber and roughly translates into 'land of the blacks'.

Guinea is a remarkable country with very warm, genuine people but little infrastructure. While they have tremendous natural resources, they rate very poorly in the UN's quality of life index.

Guinee is one of those countries where traveling means hard work. Roads are in bad shape in the dry season and in no shape during the rainy season. But hard work is often the most rewarding work; the people of Guinee are very friendly and the landscape can be breathtaking.

The official language is French. There are numerous ethnic languages, and the three most prevalent are Susu, pular(foulah) and Malinke. Susu is spoken in the coastal region and in the capital city.
