Corsica

Although Corsica is still ruled by France, one can hardly deny the Italian atmosphere the island exhales. The island is, except for a few cities on the coasts, such as Ajaccio and Bastia , not densely populated. As a result, Corsica still exists of vast areas of unspoiled scenery. Hence why its inhabitants (round and about a quarter of a million) call it the Island of Beauty to which you can probably only agree when you see the versatile character composed of lakes and snow-capped mountains.

Choose for yourself whether you want to visit the olive trees and vineyards, the little white towns in the countryside, see the cultural heritage of Napoleon in Ajaccio or explore the unspoilt snow-capped mountains from central Corte. Until you’ve decided on your travel plan, take a glass of Patrimonio wine, sit back on the beach at Calvi and enjoy the Island of Beauty.

Ajaccio

Ajaccio, located on the west coast, is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and the residence where he was born has been turned into the Bonaparte Museum. The impressive Cathedrale Notre Dame de la Misericorde is the place where he was baptized in 1771. Before you set off for one of the villages in the Cinarca Valley with their wine slopes or for a visit to the volcanic stones of Scandola, make sure to visit the Fesch Museum. It is known for its fabulous collection of (amongst others) Italian Primitives.

Bastia

Bastia is one of the most thriving port towns in the north of Corsica and can be easily reached by ferry from the mainland. The town has an Italian flair and is known for its old harbour, the Vieux Port, its alleys and the place St Nicolas, where all the hustle and bustle takes place. You can visit the Sainte Marie Citadel which is just a short walk from the town centre.

Calvi

The best beaches can be found at Calvi in the north west of corsica. Already from a distance, one can spot the port town’s citadel that can be reached by following the winding alleys. The markets, restaurants and hotels are concentrated around the Basse Ville. Calvi is attracting more beach lovers every year and is slowly turning into one of those popular holiday resorts.

Corte

Corte (Corti in Corsican) is located at the heart of Corsica and marks the natural boundary between the northern and southern part of Corsica. It became the capital of Corsica when it saw independence for only fourteen years, from 1755 until 1769. The old town citadel houses the Museum of Corsica dedicated to the Corsican history, culture and economy. Because of its central location, Corte is a good point from which to explore the nearby mountains.
