Paris is one of the best travel destinations. It has everything a traveller could possibly wish for. A stay in Paris should at least include a visit to the Louvre, one of the best museums in the world, a climb of the Eiffel tower, a climb to the top of Notre Dame Cathedral, You should also climb the steps to the Sacré Coeur in Montmartre, stroll around the Place du Tertre behind it, visit the saucy Pigalle district, walk around the Latin quarter- St. Germain, Boulevard St. Michel, and feel the atmosphere of the street performers outside the Centre Pompidou, before you enter, of course. In the neighborhood of Paris you can visit, Fontainebleau, Versailles with its magnificent palace of Louis XIV, Vaux-le-Vicomte and the inspiration for Versailles Disneyland Paris. All of these make perfect daytrips. Paris Attractions and SightsHistorical SightsArc de Triomphe - One of the most famous monuments of Paris. It stands to honor the men and women who died while fighting in one of France's most bloody period - the French Revolution. Construction of the Arc was ordered by Napoleon I and it roughly follows the model of the Arc of Constantine in Rome.Basilique du Sacre Coeur - Located in one of the nicest quarters of Paris, on top of Butte de Montmartre (Montmartre Hill) and overlooking all of Paris. It was built as a reaction after losing a war with Prussia. The Sacré-Coeur measures 100 m in length and 50 m in width, and is crowned by a distinctive 83 m dome. Centre Pompidou - A great example of modern architecture houses a good collection of modern art in Musée National d'Art Moderne and a vast public library. Eiffel Tower - The Eiffel tower (Tour Eiffel in French) was built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel for the World Exposition, which was held in Paris for the centennial of the French Revolution. The tower is over 300 m (985 ft) high. Notre Dame Cathedral - The Notre Dame is, without a doubt, the most popular attraction on the Ile de la Cité. The Cathedral is a magnificent example of gothic architecture. Palace of Versailles - The Château de Versailles is a royal château. From 1682, when King Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in 1789, the court of Versailles was the centre of power. Museums and Art GalleriesDali Museum - The Espace Dali-Montmartre was set up by the Stratton Foundation, a non profit-making association operating from Lichtenstein whose main aim is to promote Art. Foundation decided in 1991 to open a permanent exhibition in honour of Salvador Dali and it selected Paris as its location.Louvre - The Louvre is the largest, and arguably the most famous museum in the world. Its central courtyard now occupied by the Louvre Pyramid. The Louvre holds the rich artistic heritage of the French people from the early Capetian Kings through the Empire of Napoleon Bonaparte to 1848. Museum Rodin - Auguste Roding is presumably the most famous sculptor of France. The museum dedicated to him, shows works from different periods of his life. Museum Picasso - Museum Picasso has a collection of several thousand works of Pablo Picasso. Museum d'Orsay - The museum was opened in December 1986 and was dedicated to all artistic production from 1848 to 1914. Paintings, pastels, sculptures, furniture and objets d'art, photography and documentary objects reflect the richness and diversity of this era. |
